The Truth About Franchise System Training

Truth about franchising

When you’re going into the fiercely competitive world of franchising, you have to understand that you’ll basically be walking into a battleground. There are hundreds just like you everywhere, who could not be happier than when they see you fail. In the world of franchising there are customers to win, market shares to possess and simply the difficult task of standing your ground in the face of all business related difficulties, whether financial or otherwise.

It doesn’t make sense by any stretch of the imagination to enter a battlefield unprepared. You can’t exactly be swinging a dinner knife around when everybody else is swinging a sword now, can you? That’s why you have to remember one of the most important tools to achieving success in a Franchise System which is the proper training.

A franchisor must put every aspect of his system under scrutiny because there is no room for mistakes. In order to keep up with the fickle and ever changing business world, up to date training courses must be made available to your franchisees to enable them to stand strong in the face of the many challenges they will encounter.

A good way to help bring in the profit and train your franchisees to handle business properly is to create a sort of “initiation” team that goes to the franchisees businesses in the very beginning to help get them off the ground. They would be able to help the franchisee bring in an income from the very start and help guide him or her through any bumps along the road resulting from equipment use or logistics. Additionally, they can help the franchisee to weed out the good customers from the bad ones and show him or her how to avoid being taken advantage of or exploited. Their payment could be included in the start up cost and they would be considered a separate entity from the marketing and promotional staff, who would later step in to fulfill their duties. Before picking up and leaving, this crack crew or start-up team can help in the hiring and training of new employees before moving on to the next franchisee where they’ll do everything all over again and leave another successful franchising business behind.

This has been tried and previously proven successful by many franchisors before and will continue to be implemented in the future. It may not sound easy to pull off at first but the rewards make it a more than a worthy effort to make.

  1. What I don’t understand is why would one waste their time drafting their own legal documents when they have no expertise in law and have to go through all of the hoops?

Thank you for your comment. I’m going to take the risk of being rude but it seems to me you are a FranCorp employee or work on the Search Engine Optimization of FranCorp. Thus, I don’t think your comment is totally genuine and I was very close to mark it as spam.

  3. Good points to consider! Franchisors can really do a lot of things to assist the franchisees in the process. The training given to the staff truly helps so much to maintain high standards in the sales and distribution of high quality products or services. Franchisees, on their part, have to decide carefully in choosing the franchise opportunity to explore so that once they set in, they bring out the best in them. A franchise guide can help them along the way. Skills and training help a lot in making themselves prepared to pursue their goals.

  4. What do you think the franchisee should pay for this element of support?

  5. One important place to look for training issues is in your franchise agreement under “obligations of the franchisor.” Then look at the “obligations of the franchisee” section. Place them side to side. You will see that in almost every franchise agreement the franchisee’s obligations will run many pages and hundreds of lines of fine print; in contrast, the franchisor’s obligations will encompass a few sentences. This is usually where the franchsior’s training “obligation” is set forth. Well, the problem here is that the training obligation has no specificity, and, many times the language permits the franchisor to provide or withold training at its “sole discretion.” This, of course, means that the franchisor will have no obligation legally to provide any training. In order to guide you through this minefield, you should have an experienced franchise lawyer in your corner. Jeff Goldstein; Goldstein Law Group http://www.goldlawgroup.com [email protected]
